Shrikant Sharma, Founder
For too long, buildings have been designed without considering what matters most: people. We’re here to change that.
Through data-driven, human-centred decisions, we’re reducing waste and inefficiencies. So we can create better places for people and planet.
Building monitoring and analytics doesn’t have to be complex or costly. We use your existing data as a foundation, then add our AI-powered Digital Twin Platform and low-cost “peel-and-stick” IoT sensors, to give you meaningful ROI in days and weeks. Here is the proof.

Back in 2012, our founder, Shrikant Sharma, had the spark of an idea. Today, that spark is SmartViz. A company that has powered thousands of buildings with AI-enhanced insights and saved our partners over £100m.
Join us on a journey from then to now, exploring key highlights along the way.
One Sunday morning in April 2012, Shrikant couldn’t stop an idea from buzzing around his head. He grabbed his diary and started sketching in the back pages. Two hours later, he stepped back, looked at those rough sketches and knew he was onto something. He’d created an early blueprint for the SmartViz we know today.
In 2017, Shrikant’s Smart Space and Analytics team at Buro Happold started exploring smart buildings. They realised traditional building systems were ignoring one key factor: people! So, they started combining their unique human behaviour modelling expertise with BIM, GIS, Occupancy, Movement and Environment data. SmartViz was born.
In 2019, we hit our first milestone: we saved Vodafone a huge £40 million annually. Soon, other large organisations adopted SmartViz, including Heathrow Airport Terminal 5, Royal United Hospital, Coventry University, Barbican Centre, LA Metro, High Line, and more. Every project pushed the boundaries and delivered tangible outcomes for our clients – saving money, reducing waste, improving people’s wellbeing.
When the global pandemic turned the world upside down, our team knew we could help. We worked with seven universities to help them implement social distancing measures, which meant more than 200,000 students could continue their education safely. These initiatives won us the Covid-19 achievement award by CIBSE.
We teamed up with the Scottish government to solve carbon and wellbeing challenges in schools across the country. Our platform showed schools how their buildings performed, where the bottlenecks were, and how changes would impact performance. The result? Improved building performance and better learning environments.
By this point, SmartViz had been on an amazing journey. As a SaaS product born in a consulting environment, we’d already helped global businesses improve building performance and save millions in costs. But SmartViz was ready for its next big step – becoming an independent business. We stepped out in March 2022 and haven’t looked back.
As our business grew, so did our team. Abdul started leading our Product team and Seckin took charge of Data and AI. In 2023, AEC tech leader, Gary Wyatt, joined as a Business Strategy Lead to refine and boost our go-to-market plan. We also said hello to Vishal, our Professional Services Lead and Jamie, our Fullstack Developer and Analyst. We’re doubling in size and scale every year. And we’re only just getting started!
Nothing beats seeing our customers succeed, but winning awards feels good too. At TechFest 2024, we took home not one, but two awards: Best Use of Technology in Smart Data Collection for Asset Management and the Innovation Accelerator award. Our smiles say it all!
We secured the Toyota Mobility Foundation Grant in the Sustainable Cities Challenge – after being picked from over 80 visionary entries. This has helped develop a unique Movement Analytics offer to help city planners make cities safer and more accessible. In 2025 we also won the Digital Construction Award for Asset Management!
Our mission has taken us to events across the globe, including CivTech, Built World Paris Summit, Bengal Global Business Summit, TechFest and UHEI London. Shrikant’s talks are perfect for policy makers, building owners, architects, developers and large organisations such as universities, airports, transport hubs and hospitals.
